History Silo island Krk Croatia
|
Silo belongs to the municipality Dobrinj, which is situated on
the north-eastern coast of the island Krk. It was built on the
foundations of the Frankopan Duke´s castels. Important sights to visit
are the church of St. Anthony (14th century) and the church of St. Stephen
(built in 1100). The exhibitions by famous croatian and international
artists take place in the gallery St. Anthony which is located in the
church St. Anthony.

The Ethnographic museum hosts an ethnographic collection with authentic
household and fishermen's crafts.
The Sacral museum hosts a religious collection; the most famous in the
religious collection is the "First Book of the Dobrinj" (14th century)
written in the Glagolitic alphabet.

Klimno - Soline - Cizici - Polje island Krk Croatia
Next to Silo, in the bay of
Soline, there
are small villages of Klimno, Soline and
Cizici. The bay is famous for its healing mud (gout and other rheumatic diseases) and shell growing.
Above Silo there is the beautiful old village Polje, with its old original
houses and its traditional way of life.
Cave Biserujka - island Krk Croatia
After passing through Cizici
we reach the Rudine with its famous cave "Biserujka" (biser in Croatian means a pearl). According to a legend, smugglers hide a pearl treasure in the cave. The
cave with its rich galleries filled
with numerous stalactites, stalagmites and calcine pillars is 110 m long. The cave temperature is between 10
and 13 °C all year
round. Foot paths are maintaned and safe and suitable also for children. You can reach the
Biserujka Cave by foot, car or boat.

The principal town of the
island
Krk,
surrounded by forests, lies in a beautiful bay on the wind-protected western
side of the island. The calm island life characterizes the port during the
day and in the restaurants, bars and Cafés at the promenade develop their
brisk art of life.
The objects of interest of the
city Krk:
- The most important object of
interest of Krk is the cathedral, originally a Roman Basilica from the 6th
century. The today's three-aisle cathedral from the 12th century with the
bell tower from the 16.-18th century was rebuilt several times in its
history.

- Kamplin place: there is
a Frankopan castle, which served for the defence of the city in the Middle
Ages as well as the Frankopan court, which was in use since the 12th
century.

- Small town-gate, which
was mentioned already in 1398, the only gate that leads directly to the city
harbour.
In the summer months many artists
and ensembles appear as guests in the city. To the tradition belong the
celebration of the St. Quirinius, the summer festival of Krk, as well as the
fair of Krk (at the beginning of August).
The most of events take place in
the free or in the historical places: in the cathedral, in the atrium of the
Franciscan monastery in Krk and Kosljun and in the castle of the family
Frankopan.

Punat / Island Kosljun
If you
make a trip, you should also visit the small island Kosljun in the bay of
Punat. On the
island there is a Franciscan monastery with numerous valuable objects, which
were collected by centuries and are presented there today. There is also an
ethnographic collection. On the small island over 500 plant types are
registered.

Baska - island Krk Croatia

Baska, town
and port on the south-eastern coast of the island of Krk
is the most well-known tourist centre on the island Krk.
The pictorial valley, the rich cultural
heritage and the beautiful 2 km long beach, contribute
to the extraordinary attractiveness of this place. The 2 km
long fine pebble beach of Baska is one
of the most beautiful beaches of the Adria and is
particularly suitable for non-swimmers and children.
Places of cultural significance include the church of the Holy Trinity,
situated in the old town centre. It is the largest church of Baska and its environment.
It was built in the baroque
style at the beginning of the 18th century. Near the church there is also a
local history museum, which contains an ethnographic collection of the whole
environment.

In Jurandvor
on island Krk, about 1.5 km before Baska, there is the church St. Lucija and the
remainders of the Benedictine monastery. In this small church the "board of
Baska" (Bascanska ploca), the oldest Croatian writing document (in
Glagolica) from 11th. century was found.

Vrbnik - island Krk Croatia
Visiting the old city of the Vrbnik is nearly a must for each guest of the
island Krk. A medieval small town situated on a 48 meters high cliff, well
known for the Croatian autochthonous white wine "Zlahtina". You should cost
this traditional island wine. If you make an evening walk through by many,
close lanes, visit some art studios and finally, let the evening ends in one
of the cosy "Konobas" enjoying the wine, sheep cheese and seafood
specialities.Between the numerous cultural
monuments in Vrbnik the constitution "Vrbnicki statute" (1388) and the
decorated mass book "Vrbnicki missal" from the year 1642 should be
emphasized, both in the old-Croatian glagolitics letters.

Crikvenica - Kvarner bay - Croatia
Crikvenica is situated in the
Kvarner bay of the Adriatic Sea and is one of
the most popular summer resorts of the Riviera. With his mild climate and
luxurious evergreen vegetation is Crikvenica a famous health resort.
The tourism in Crikvenica has a tradition of more than one hundred years,
the first hotel in Crikvenica was built in the year 1891.
There are a lot of very nice beaches in Crikvenica:
- the beach "Balustrada" is located near the centre, along the town park.
The beach is adapted for disabled persons and is suitable for children.
- The sandy beach "Crni molo" is located in an attractive part of the town
and is also sitable for children.

There is a taxi boat between Silo and Crikvenica.
